Windows Update[German]Microsoft has released the Monthly Rollups updates KB4457139 for Windows 7 SP1 and KB4457133 for Windows 8.1 as of September 20, 2018.  In addition there are further updates for Windows Server 2008 (KB4458315) and Windows Server 2012 (KB4457134). Here is an overview of these updates.

This time there are no preview rollups for Windows 7/8.1. The updates are listed on this website (Windows 7) and on this website (Windows 8.1) as well as in the Microsoft Update Catalog.

KB4457139 for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2

Update KB44457139 (Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems) is available for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1. It is not a security update – nor is it a preview rollup – but a quality rollup. It contains the patches from the previous rollups and also addresses the following issues:

  • Addresses an issue with evaluating the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows.
  • Addresses an issue with the diagnostic pipeline for devices enrolled in Windows Analytics when the CommercialID registry key, “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\DataCollection” is present.
  • Addresses a memory leak issue that occurs when a device with a multilingual UI calls the LoadString API.
  • Addresses an issue in which all Guest Virtual Machines running Unicast dual NIC NLB fail to respond to NLB requests after the Virtual Machines restart.

The update is offered via Windows Update, but can be manually downloaded via Microsoft Update Catalog.

Microsoft states in the section with known problems that the network controller could go on strike with certain third-party drivers after installation. The remedy is to reinstall the network driver.
