[German]On October 9, 2018 Microsoft released various (security) updates (KB4462923, KB4462915) for Windows 7 SP1 and further updates (KB4462926, KB4462941) for Windows 8.1 as well as the corresponding server versions. Here is an overview of these updates.
Updates for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2
For Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 a rollup and a security-only update have been released. The update history for Windows 7 can be found on this Microsoft site.
KB4462923 (Monthly Rollup) for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2
Update KB4462923 (Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) contains improvements and bug fixes that were already included in last month’s update. The update addresses:
Security updates to Windows Media Player, Windows Graphics, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.
The update is automatically downloaded and installed by Windows Update. It can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Note: The KB article again contains the hint that the update has the problem that the NIC (network interface controller) does not work anymore due to a missing .inf file from a third party manufacturer. A remedy is to have the NIC reinstalled via the Device Manager.
To install the update, the current Servicing Stack update must be installed. Otherwise there will be errors during the installation.
KB44462915 (Security Only) for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2
Update KB4462915 (Security-only update) is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. It addresses the following items.
- Addresses an issue in which all guest virtual machines running Unicast NLB fail to respond to NLB requests after the virtual machines restart.
- Security updates to Windows Media Player, Windows Graphics, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows Kernel, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.
The update is available via WSUS or in the Microsoft Update Catalog. When you use Windows Update to install, you are automatically offered the latest SSU (KB3177467). To install the standalone package for the latest SSU, visit the Microsoft Update Catalog. There are no known issues. If you install Security Only Update, install also KB4462949 for IE.
KB3177467 SSU for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Update KB3177467 is a Servicing Stack Update for Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, which must be installed before the other updates. Under Windows Update the package is offered automatically. However, it is available for download in the Microsoft Update Catalog. The Known Issue is that the reboot seems to hang between “Stage 2 of 2” or “Stage 3 of 3”. Then you should force a login by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del repeatedly.
Updates for Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2

KB4462941 (Security-only update) for Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2
Update KB4462941 (Security Only Quality Update for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2) addresses the following issues.
